Tigre ouro - Peckoltia compta - L134 6-8 cm
Description
Golden Tiger - Peckoltia compta - L134, 4-6 cm
This small pleco has always been a favourite in the hobby, as it is an easy fish to keep with a wonderful pattern.
On a whitish to yellow ground colour, many black stripes, squiggles and spots are visible. This species has a very variable pattern, which is mostly more striped with a yellower background colour at a younger age and becomes more complex and broken as it matures. There are also some differences in the local forms with regard to the pattern.
Origin: Rio Tapajós
It is important to have enough hiding places in the aquarium. This can easily be done with caves, rocks or dishes.
Diet: Omnivore with a tendency towards meaty foods. Peckoltia compta "L134" is an omnivore and eats everything.
The mouth of this species shows fairly pointed teeth, but not the largest. These teeth cannot be placed in a particular category, as they show characteristics of both a herbivore and a carnivore. Fish with a mixed diet such as "L134" are called omnivores, since they are not fussy about a certain type of food and eat all kinds of invertebrates, dead fish, algae, aquatic plants, biofilm and so on.
In captivity, they can be fed all kinds of commercial as well as natural fish foods. From frozen brine shrimp, mosquito larvae, krill etc. to dry foods such as granules, sinking pellets and flakes, everything is eaten well. It is important to feed both green foods and animal protein. It is not an effective algae eater. Well-fed individuals will not damage most plants.
FURNISHINGS: Piles of rocks and tangles of wood. Plants are not vital.
Water parameters:
pH 5.0 - 7.4
Temperature 24.0-28.0°C
Adult size: 14 cm
