To celebrate my 20 years of
Discus, I decided to create this blog. The
last months in Brazil, in the land of the
Discus, made me look back and realise that after two
decades the
passion, dedication and constant knowledge about these fish is something fascinating! To build this blog, which will always be a work in progress, it took many hours collecting old photos and articles published on the
net and in magazines, a pastime and a reminder of certain moments that were half forgotten.
Here
you can find my memories, my testimonies, my
experiences, my travels, and tips for keeping and breeding your fish.
20 years of this "vice", a
healthy one that has led me to meet thousands of people and the cultures of different peoples. The friendship established
through our common interest ...the
Discus ! From a
hobby was born the profession to which I devote myself exclusively. This blog is a sharing of knowledge for all those who wish to know more about
discus, about my
experience with them. Obviously, and as I like to say, I will never know everything, as every day I am in constant
learning. For those who are just
starting out, I can only give one simple piece of advice... to keep
Discus you need a lot of
patience and
persistence . For those who have had them for some time, never think you know it all ...because if you do, you are
fooling yourselves ;) Over the last years I have been loved by some and hated by others.
Difficult is making a name in any line of business,
easy is, without doubt, destroying it. There is a lot of envy, as in any professional activity, many rumours, many badly told stories, even more so in this world of fish. As I have always said, speak well or speak ill, but never stop talking. One truth is that in these
last 20 years I have tried to reach the
maximum of knowledge, always trying to keep myself up to date in this constantly evolving world of
fishkeeping . . The
Discus are my World! Perhaps that is why, and anyone who knows me personally knows, talking about
Discus and working with
Discus is a personal pleasure. Over
many years, many people turned to my knowledge to be helped to keep their favourite fish...the
Discus. Perhaps that is why this blog had to be made ...even in the little time I have. Here
you can now see some photos and texts from these 20 years of work. I dedicate this blog to my
family, who many times was placed 2nd by my unconditional passion for these fish, to which I have dedicated my life. I dedicate
also this blog to a great
Portuguese breeder from the North of Portugal, Fernando
Ferreira, with whom I spent many nights in
get-togethers around the
Discus. A common
passion and a friendship that will always last. Hours and hours of conversation and learning. I cannot forget a lifelong friend,
Heiko Bleher, always a good adviser in this world of Discus . From them I learned a lot about
Discus over these years, and I could never forget those who helped me so much to learn more about these
Amazonian fish. Obviously other people have passed and still pass through, marking different moments, always with the common complicity...THE
DISCUS !!!
To everyone who passes by here, I
appreciate a small
comment or any question, as it will
benefit so many more in future who will pass through here !!
To all of you ...a big THANK YOU !!
