Royal, Semi Royal or simply red ... the difficult selection !

Royal, Semi Royal or simply red ... the difficult selection !
Contrary to what many people think, selecting Wild Discus is not an easy task .

Few people in the world can understand my words, because few people in the world do this work of selecting Wild Discus in the Amazon .
The vast majority of exporters wait for the Wild Discus to arrive at their facilities , at their companies , while others cannot tell a good one from a bad one , because they do not have the knowledge to do so .
More than that, life in the middle of the Amazon jungle has everything but ease. The conditions in the jungle are anything but comfortable .

Generally, Wild Discus turn black when they are collected . It is not possible to identify their color . Only with experience, by seeing the wild discus at the moment they are collected and selected, and weeks later at the company, can one understand what their colors are. In the beginning I made mistakes, thinking the Discus would be red , brown , blue , etc. , and then it turned out to be exactly the opposite .

Their stress level is high, and that is why they are black . Over the years I have learned to recognize their initial pale colors in order to understand the potential of the Wild Discus months later . Generally, colors such as red are perceived at the beginning with a "bordeaux" tone .Stress bars are another problem to recognize at the beginning . Often small imperfections in the bars go unnoticed . Crooked bars or small bars that are starting to appear are not visible when the Wild Discus is selected at the source .

The same goes for the eyes and their color . While the size of the eyes is easy to observe, the color is almost always impossible to see .

The horizontal lines of their pattern are another situation that is totally impossible to observe . In fact, over the months Wild Discus often show marks that were impossible to detect at the beginning . We have exported Semi Royals that, once in the customers' homes, show their continuity and become Royals .
In the jungle it is practically impossible, with rare exceptions where we find less stressed Wild Discus in which the pattern and the potential of the Discus can already be seen.

Often, when they leave their natural environment, Discus seem to have doubtful shapes , that is , less round . Incredible as it may seem, as they spend time at the company in quarantine and fatten up, the Discus become slightly rounder . In other words, when they leave their habitat still thin, their shape looks less round than it actually will be after the deworming and fattening process .
